Is your car’s cloth upholstery looking a little worse for wear? It’s all too easy for cloth upholstery to get dirty and worse still, it can be even more difficult to clean it at home. At Banister’s Upholstery, we know how frustrating it can be to look at your car’s upholstery and wonder how you can get it to look better for longer. As such, here are some tips to help you keep your car’s upholstery clean.
1. Set Some Ground Rules for Food and Drinks
If you’ve previously had a lax attitude toward food and drink in your car, you might want to rethink that strategy. Eating and drinking in the car can cause stains and leave a lot of crumbs that can also stain. It might not be easy to completely ban foods and drinks, but what you can do is set some ground rules for the types of foods allowed and require drinks to be in spill-proof containers.
2. Vacuum Your Upholstery Regularly
Keeping your cloth upholstery clean means starting out from a clean place. When you take the time to regularly vacuum your upholstery, that gives you a chance to remove dirt, crumbs, and other debris before they have a chance to get lost in the crevices. This also reduces the chances of stains developing. Vacuuming is so much easier to do and more effective if you keep up with it.
3. Consider Using Seat Covers
Seat covers can be a fantastic solution for your cloth upholstery because they protect the seats and catch debris from getting stuck way down in the cracks of your seats. Your seat covers still need maintenance, too, though. This isn’t a completely maintenance-free option. You will need to wash them regularly or clean them using the recommended cleaners for your cover type.
4. Spot Treat as Necessary
As soon as you notice a stain or something that looks dirty, spot treat it right away. If someone sneaks in a banned food item, it’s best to clean the stain right away rather than waiting. This gives you a better chance of getting the stain out yourself. Use gentle cleansers and avoid saturating your upholstery for the best results. As we said above, use recommended cleaners for the best results, too.
